Foreword
Margaret Brown is truly a Renaissance woman. She has been blessed by God not only with brilliance, but with an over whelming commitment to help others.
I met Attorney Brown years ago, when she was Vice President of Community Engagement for the First Independence Bank of Detroit. This platform helped her to launch upon a mission that dictated to her that one cannot solve a problem if one has not experienced that problem. In 2004, Margaret Brown resigned from the safe, secure position in the bank and started her own firm. In that new capacity, she became a consultant for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). She also functioned as a real estate consultant for the Highland Park Housing Commission, Warren Sherman Area Council, First Independence Bank and Title Source.
Ms. Brown’s commitment and undying dedication to her mission is evident in many of the housing developments throughout the state of Michigan. As an advocate for unprotected and handicapped citizens, she is a bellringer for the voiceless and the often hopeless.

Each of these wonderful, personable essays could be considered as one tiny piece of shining glass in the mosaic of her life. They illustrate the highs and the lows, the mountain tops and the valleys. As I read them, I felt like I was eavesdropping on the issues that nourished her as well the ones that almost took her out. Life is really the process of seeking the answers to your own questions and Margaret is sharing her questions with the world in these essays. She is a woman of integrity and that is a rare commodity in this world where everything seems to be for sale. Margaret Brown’s entire life has shown us that one person who is dedicated, focused, and prepared for the battle can make a difference. Coming through the ranks, she has never forgotten her roots and these essays are a blessing for those looking for a guidepost. Again, I am humbled to have been asked to write this foreword and I close with this thought from my father, a man with a high school education. He told me that one should not put little people on big stages because life’s journey will dwarf them and they become lost in that journey. Margaret Brown, Esq. is certainly not lost and she has found her voice. I salute her and I hope that these essays will help someone see and understand that one does not need to have top billing to be a star.
